PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The unique thing about the voice instrument is that it is internal. Every part of the body is intrinsically involved with the way the sound of the voice is produced, whereas for instance, a piano is extrinsically involved with the production of sound. Although both instruments require many hours of practice, it is the voice that can instantly expose the emotional content of the musician. I believe that you are your greatest desire. What you desire most is what you end up doing, and what you do best always makes you stronger.
“Creation Song“ is a simple way of bringing a group together to build confidence in the execution of sound and movement. The “Creation Improvisation” builds on that confidence, but allows for individual expression. Before attempting these pieces I strongly suggest your choral ensemble listen to jazz “scat” singing – Al Jarreau, Ella Fitzgerald, etc. – and find the works of Bobby McFerrin. His work with his acapella group or the CD “Beyond Words” would be an excellent place to start.
